City tour of Cagliari |
The Mini Marathon will take place in Monserrato, in the central Via Del Redentore around a
repeating circuit and will be managed by the AITF Prometeo Onlus Association.
Monserrato is an Italian town of 20.108 inhabitants in the Cagliari hinterland. Located near the
Molentargius pond and the salt pans, is part of the metropolitan city of the Sardinian capital. The
original medieval name of the modern Monserrato, was Pauly but this changed several times from
Paùli Pirri to Paùli Monserrato. From 11 April 1888 by Royal Decree and at the behest of the City
Council, it took the definitive name of Monserrato. This name was chosen because of the Marian
Sanctuary located in the centre of the city whose image of the Virgin is connected with the
Madonna of Montserrat, near Barcelona.
Monserrato boasts a great wine tradition and a Social Wine Cellar founded in 1924.
